Study information

We want you to make your career.

The close cooperation between the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and its partner companies enriches your studies especially by means of practice-related project work and team work involving scientists and staff from the industry. Continuous updating of the curriculum guarantees a well-founded scientific education and state-of-the-art expertise in every profile. Students graduate with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) after a standard period of study of seven semesters. Subsequently, a Master of Science (M.Sc.) or, for future teachers,  a Master of Education can be completed within three semesters.

Students are given the flexibility to arrange their studies according to their individual strengths and preferences. In doing so, they can orient towards one of the three profiles the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at TU Dortmund set itself: production engineering, industrial management or logistics. The Engineering Unit Ruhr (EUR) offers the unique opportunity to attend profile modules at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and to specialize in construction, materials engineering or energy and process engineering. Consequently, students can either opt for a general or a more specialized education.

All programs of study require motivation and commitment as well as an interest in and enthusiasm for scientific-technical questions. A talent for natural sciences is helpful, but foreign languages also play an important role in an internationally oriented economy. Not least it is communication and organization in a team – i.e. the ability to handle people, to motivate, lead and support them – that is essential for vocational success. Even if you think you do not fulfill all these criteria: Don’t get discouraged. After all, studying means to broaden your horizon, to extend your knowledge and to be interested in learning.
